One of the best places to take your dog along on holiday is Jervis Bay. Located in the South Coast, this area is one of the most attractive holiday destinations in Australia. Hyams Beach is a world renowned seaside village, with the whitest sands and crystal clear waters in the world. This quaint village has lots of attractions and pet friendly locations for the whole family to delight in. This includes fabulous beaches, beachside cuisine, and cosy accommodation. The fresh air, laid back atmosphere, and spectacular scenery is the welcome break you and your pet deserve.
Dogs and Jervis Bay
Jervis Bay has dog restrictions and rules that are enforced by the local council. There are designated areas where dogs must be kept on a leash by a competent handler. Other areas have prohibitions, including:
- 200 meters from the nesting sites of shore birds.
- 10 meters from children’s playing areas
- In child care centres or schools.
- 10 meters from a food preparation area.
- 200 meters of flagged beach locations.
- Within swimming pool complexes that are operated by the council.
Restricted dog breeds, dogs that are declared dangerous and aggressive dogs, are not allowed anywhere in the Bay area. Friendly dogs are permitted on most beaches and around the villages. However, they must be on a leash between 8 am and 4 pm. The leash can be taken off outside of these hours.
There are particular areas that are designated as 24 hr, off leash dog exercise areas. Additionally, there are prohibited places where no dogs are allowed. You can obtain a map of these areas from the local council site. It goes without saying that every dog owner is required to clean up after their pet. Remember to look out for fox baiting around the villages, which may endanger your dog.
Dog Friendly Accommodation
Hyams Beach and the surrounding area have lots of dog friendly accommodation to choose from. Many premises and hotels that allow dogs will naturally have certain restrictions. This includes not allowing dirty or wet dogs into the premises or on furniture.
Despite this, there is a wide range of beach, bushland and village lodgings for you and your pet. Ideal accommodation includes houses with fenced off backyards, where your dog and kids can run free. There are also cabins, caravan parks, and camp sites that are dog friendly.
Accommodation in Jervis Bay is usually fully booked in advance during peak season and holidays. Furthermore, some establishments will require prior arrangement if you are bringing your dog along. It is therefore important to book early. A surcharge for pets may be charged by some property owners. There are few places that are more dog friendly than Hyams Beach. This is the ideal location to bring along your dog for an awesome holiday for the whole family.
